Search files
Go to file by name, search text across a project with Search, and find text in the open file.
The file explorer has three ways to find things. They work the same in the Review panel's Files tab and in the Files app.
| Shortcut | Opens | Finds |
|---|---|---|
| Cmd/Ctrl+P | Go to file | A file or folder by name |
| Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+F | Search pane | Text across the whole root |
| Cmd/Ctrl+F | Find in file | Text in the open file |
The shortcuts apply only while focus is inside the explorer (for Find in file, inside the viewer). Elsewhere they keep their usual meaning, and no CompozyOS shortcut changes. The Files ↔ Search switch above the tree and the Go to file button do the same without a keyboard.
Go to file
Type any part of a path. Matching is fuzzy and tolerates gaps, so sesrev finds
session-review-panel.tsx. Results are ranked with the matched characters highlighted, up to 50 at
a time.
- With an empty query, the box lists up to 10 Recent files you opened in this root.
- Add
:42to the query, such ashandler.go:42, to open the file at line 42. The footer says Opens at line 42. - Choosing a folder expands and reveals it in the tree.
- Sensitive files show a lock. Opening one leads to the viewer's Show contents gate.
- Esc closes the box and returns focus to where you were.
Go to file searches tracked and untracked files, not Git-ignored ones. The footer shows how many files are indexed. The index refreshes every few seconds as files change, and holds up to 200,000 files; past that, the footer adds "some files aren't searchable by name".
Search
Type at least two characters. Results update as you type, and Enter runs the search at once. Matches are grouped by file; click a match, or step through matches with ↑ and
↓ in the result list, to open the file at that line with Find in file already set to the match.
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
| Match case | Case-sensitive matching. |
| Match whole word | Only whole-word matches. |
| Use regular expression | Treats the query as a POSIX extended regular expression. |
| files to include | Comma-separated globs relative to the root, such as web/**/*.ts. |
| files to exclude | Comma-separated globs to leave out, such as **/*.test.ts. |
Open the include and exclude fields with Toggle search details. Each field takes up to ten
globs. Globs can't start with / or :, and can't contain ... An invalid regular expression shows the error under the query.
In the query field, ↑ and ↓ walk your last 10 searches for this root. The options and history are remembered per root.
What Search covers
Search reads tracked and untracked files with git grep, and skips Git-ignored files. In a folder
that isn't a Git repository, it reads the files on disk and notes Not a git repository · searched
files on disk. It skips binary files, files over 1 MB, symlinks, and the .git folder.
| Note under the summary | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 2 sensitive files not searched | Sensitive files are never searched; this counts them. |
| Showing the first 2,000 results · refine your search | Search stops at 2,000 matching lines, 100 per file. |
| Search stopped after 10 s · results may be incomplete | Search returns what it found within 10 seconds. |
When nothing matches, the pane says No results for your query and names any active options.
Find in file
Cmd/Ctrl+F in the viewer finds literal text in the open file. See File viewer › Find in file.
